It can often be the case that when it comes to cleaning the home, we concentrate on the areas in our direct view. Out of sight, out of mind. But these are tasks you need to get to before they build up to be much worse.
We’ve put together a list of cleaning tasks that often get missed so you can ensure your home is sparkling from top to bottom. You may even find it useful to schedule in time to carry out these deep cleaning tasks on a regular basis at the same time each week or month, depending on how much each area is used.
Light switches and door handles
Despite being used multiple times a day, light switches and door handles are often forgotten about and can harbour germs and bacteria. Clean using a damp cloth and a regular, non-toxic or non-bleach based cleaning spray.
Even if you empty your bin regularly, there can often be lingering odours, or left-over bits of food that we often miss or get stuck to the lid. You should regularly give the inner bin a scrub and a clean to keep those nasty smells at bay.
It’s so easy to clean the floor that we can see, but underneath appliances and furniture is a common place where dirt and grime builds up if not cleaned regularly. Every now and then, move it out if you can and give it a good old scrub underneath.
Though, do be careful with heavier items and be sure to ask for help to move them if required so not to injure yourself!
Another daily use item that is constantly handled, sometimes by lots of different people is remote controls and they are often neglected when it comes to cleaning.
A wipe-over with a damp cleaning cloth either daily or weekly (depending on how often it’s used) will ensure any bacteria or germs aren’t spread further.
These are often the perfect place to collect dust, especially in bathrooms where you often get lint from extra fluffy towels. To help slow down the build-up, wipe the skirting boards over with a cloth dampened with some neat fabric conditioner and this should slow down the dust settling over time.
